I was on a business trip with a coworker. We stayed at the same hotel, so we stayed up talking for a while. He kept trying to freak me out by telling me that the place was haunted and that something was going to come for me in the night. Admittedly, I got kind of scared and when I went to bed I made sure to cover myself as much as possible. You know how it is.
Just as I expected, I heard someone knocking at my door in the middle of the night. I thought it might be a hotel employee, so I called out to see who it was. Nobody answered, though. I was scared even looking at the door, and the knocking continued all night long. As soon as the sun started to come up, the knocking stopped. I got dressed and hurried out of the room. I checked out without even eating breakfast because I didn’t want to be anywhere near the place.
After the business trip ended and I went back home, I told my coworker about the knocking. He smugly said that he knew it would happen because a while back, there had been a fire at the hotel. Most people made it out, but there were a few that had been stuck inside. Those people ended up being stuck in their rooms and died slowly from burns and smoke inhalation. It’s their spirits that appear at the hotel now.
Damn. Hearing that made me glad that I didn’t open the door. I wonder what would have happened if I had?

Well, I guess it’s time for me to get going.
I just noticed it’s already past noon.
Shit… I haven’t even washed my face yet.
I don’t really want to, but I should…. Blah.
I turn the water on at the sink and splash it on my face.
I take some face wash and spread it all over.
As I massage it into my skin, it begins to lather.
The water gurgling down the drain echoes in the bathroom.
Maybe I turned the faucet too far… Well, I better rinse the soap off.
I reach my hands out and search for the stream of water coming out of the faucet.
Huh? Where is it? I keep groping around, but I can’t find the water.
I open my eyes and endure the stinging of the soap as I search for the faucet.
The faucet… The faucet… Where is it?
Oh, there it is.
I turn the knob, and the water comes streaming out.
I rinse my face off… Finally all of the soap comes off.
I wipe my face off with a towel to dry myself off.
Man… I’m too scared to look in the mirror.
I haven’t even shaved my beard,
but I’m going to make a run for it while I still can.

I have never believed in the paranormal. Ghosts, demons, aliens? It all seemed so stupid and fake to me. One of my friends is all superstitious about this shit and tries to convince me that this stuff is real and I should go look for a ghost or something on my own.
So whatever, I told him why the fuck not - just so I could prove him wrong and make him shut up. He told me there was an abandoned house a few blocks away from here that was alleged to be the home of a murdered woman years ago.
That night, I grabbed a tape recorder and flashlight and set off to explore the house and see if I could communicate with a ‘ghost’. I climbed through a window on the side of the house, crawled in and turned my light on.
The house was really desolate and empty. Definitely abandoned. The only thing in the house was a police tape covering the entrance of the staircase. The room at the top must of been where the scene of the murder took place. I tear it off and walk up the stairs into the room.
Dead silence. This seems to be the best place to communicate with a ghost, I thought to myself, so I began recording with the recorder.
"Hello? If there is a ghost in here, show me a sign and make a sound."
I stood there for about 10 seconds waiting for something.
Nothing.
I stopped the recording and waited a moment before I pressed play.
"Hello? If there is a ghost in here, show me a sign and make a sound."
Silence.
My heart sank. I run out as fast as I can and didn’t look back. I had never been so afraid in my life.
